Stark Foundation Celebrating 50th Anniversary
February 23, 2011
Wednesday, February 23, 2011 will mark the 50th Anniversary of the Nelda C. and H.J. Lutcher Stark Foundation, which was established on that day in 1961 by Nelda and Lutcher Stark. The Stark Foundation has served for 50 years with a mission improve the quality of life in Orange and surrounding communities in Southeast Texas through grants for education, health and human services, arts and culture, and community enhancement. Through the operation of its venues -- The W.H. Stark House, the Stark Museum of Art, Frances Ann Lutcher Theater for the Performing Arts, and Shangri La Botanical Gardens and Nature Center – the Stark Foundation contributes historical, artistic and cultural resources to the area.
In recognition of this landmark event, the Foundation is waiving admission fees for all venues on Wednesday, February 23, 2011. There are no entry fees for the Stark Museum or Lutcher Theater, as the Museum is always free and the Theater normally requires an admission ticket for a performance. The Museum will offer visitors a set of note cards featuring collection masterworks, and the Theater will provide backstage and behind-the-scene tours. Any separate cost for other activities (such as Adams Bayou boat tours at Shangri La) will be charged at normal rates and are subject to availability.
