Take a Child Outside Week

September 30, 2010

Take a Child Outside Week
September 24-30

Shangri La is excited to participate in the national initiative known as Take a Child Outside Week. (click here for complete schedule)

Inspired by Richard Louv's book, The Last Child in the Woods, this initiative encourages everyone to overcome the barriers that prevent children from exploring and experiencing the world around them.

At Shangri La, our goal is to show parents and others some outdoor activities that they can do with their children.  We also strive to instill a sense of wonder in all of the children that come to Shangri La during this week of fun-tastic events.

We invite you to bring your children to Shangri La from September 24 - 30 and participate in Take a Child Outside Week activities.

September 30 – Nature Discovery Scavenger Hunt
Come on a scavenger hunt at Shangri La! As your child finds the items allow them to write down and/or draw what they found. You could also take pictures of the items that you find with your own digital camera. Once you have found everything, start over or think of other descriptions of things you have found or might want to try to find.

Detailed instructions and materials will be at the welcome table for this activity (this table is located right past the admission office window).
