Take a Child Outside Week

September 28, 2010

Take a Child Outside Week
September 24-30

Shangri La is excited to participate in the national initiative known as Take a Child Outside Week

Inspired by Richard Louv's book, The Last Child in the Woods, this initiative encourages everyone to overcome the barriers that prevent children from exploring and experiencing the world around them.

At Shangri La, our goal is to show parents and others some outdoor activities that they can do with their children.  We also strive to instill a sense of wonder in all of the children that come to Shangri La during this week of fun-tastic events.

We invite you to bring your children to Shangri La from September 24 - 30 and participate in Take a Child Outside Week activities.

September 28 – Buggy Bingo
Explore a bug’s life today! Choose a comfortable place to sit and observe the bugs that are all around you. Make sure to mark each spot on the bingo card when you see or hear a bug! Then choose a different spot to sit and repeat the game. You could also try walking around to find the different items on your bingo card! Then take a look at the box o’ bugs to find out what kind of bugs you might have seen or heard.

Detailed instructions and materials will be at the welcome table for this activity (this table is located right past the admission office window).
