Join us in celebrating one of the most beautiful flowers in the world, the orchid. 
Though the vast majority of these plants grow in the tropics, Shangri La's Epiphyte House features several spectacular varieties and a few that grow wild in our natural environment. The Orchid Festival is scheduled for October 2- 9 and is free for all Shangri La members, and is included in admission fee for non-members.
10:00 a.m. Conservation and Reintroduction Status of the Kentucky Lady Slipper presented by Joe Liggio, co-author of Wild Orchids of Texas. Learn about the ongoing efforts to conserve and increase the populations of the endangered Kentucky Lady Slipper in Texas.
11:00 a.m. Saturday Adventure Series: I Scream for Orchids presented by Sarah Hill.
We all know how delicious vanilla bean flavors are, but did you know that the vanilla bean is actually the seed pod of an orchid? In this program we will be talking about the vanilla orchid, making vanilla ice cream, and discuss other uses of edible orchids around the world. Ice cream lovers of all ages will enjoy this program.
