Earth Week: Green Your Life

The fifth day of Earth Week includes popular Earth Week activities including the boat trip through Shangri La Botanical Gardens and Nature Center and story time for children, but you won’t want to miss the exciting Ecofestival, a fun-filled festival celebrating all the ways to “Be Kind to Your World.”

Saturday, April 26: Green Your Life
9:00 a.m.–all day Boat Trips with Activities
Take a boat ride through the Shangri La Nature Center, with stops along the way for activities including benthos, bird banding, catching insets in nets, and more.
9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. Ecofestival
The courtyard will be filled with information booths, and everyone is invited to come and learn about composting, ways to save on energy and water, making your own paper, what can be recycled, how to build your own compost bin (with donated recycled materials), and more. You will also find a bike booth, a scavenger hunt for LEED® information, face painting, a green car exhibit, and more. The Audubon Society, Sierra Club, Gardening Club, and additional groups will also be at the festival. Children will enjoy a special Kids’ Corner with fun craft activities.
10:00–10:30 a.m. Story Time in the Garden
The Lorax by Dr. Seuss will be read to highlight nature and how we live in our environment. Please meet under the oak tree near the Water Demonstration Garden. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
11:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. Children’s Garden Planting
Children are invited to get their hands dirty and plant in the “Here We Grow!” children’s garden located in Shangri La. Please meet at the benches in the Children’s Garden.
