STARLAB
It is well known that students learn best with full immersion. STARLAB is an amazing teaching tool that allows teachers to bring the stars inside at any time of the day. The STARLAB is a portable planetarium capable of holding up to 28 students. Inside, a projector will show the night sky devoid of light pollutants. Besides teaching about constellations, planets, moon phases, and mythology, teachers can also engage in cross-curriculum teaching using cylinders on the continental drift, geography, and the human cell. Each year, Shangri La sponsors workshops to allow teachers to develop the expertise to use this resource in their classrooms. After their training, teachers are allowed free use of the STARLAB at schools throughout the region, as it is easy to set up and transport to schools.
With STARLAB, students will be magically transported deep into space and experience fascination as they view the night sky. Many students have never seen the constellations featured in STARLAB, and many have never taken the time to look at the sky. It is important to remember that, over the years, scientists have learned an enormous amount of information by looking to the night sky! It is through the work of astronomers that we are able to gain a deeper understanding of the universe, the nature of our galaxy, the composition of our Solar System, and the condition of each of the planets.
