Lead an Explorer Tour at Shangri La: Using a Botanical Garden as a Classroom

In this workshop, teachers will learn how to guide students through the gardens at Shangri La and learn easy approaches to leading an engaging explorer tour. Come prepared for any weather as most of the workshop is outdoors. After attending this workshop teachers will be "certified" to schedule their class for an Explorer Tour at Shangri La Botanical Gardens.

STARLAB: Using a Portable Planetarium to Teach Science 

Dates: October 20, 2012 
          Time: 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.  

CPE hours : 6
Location: Stark Museum of Art Education Center, 812 Green Avenue, Orange, Texas 77630, across 7th Street from the Stark Museum of Art 

The STARLAB is a portable planetarium capable of holding 28 students. Inside, a projector shows the night sky devoid of light pollutants. In addition to teaching about constellations, planets, moon phases and mythology, teachers can engage in cross-curricular teaching using cylinders on continental drift, geography, and the human cell.  During this training, teachers will learn how to set-up and dismantle the STARLAB, how to lead an investigation inside the STARLAB and how to reserve the STARLAB for their school. Each will receive 6 hours of CPE credits and will  be certified to use STARLAB equipment at their school. Lunch will be provided.
