This summer Shangri La will be participating in Mission Possible: Texas Nature Challenge coordinated by the AgriLIFE EXTENSION, Texas Forest Service, and Houston Wilderness. This event encourages families to reconnect with the outdoors by completing different “missions” at a variety of state parks, nature centers, and other environmental learning facilities throughout the Houston Wilderness and surrounding areas of Southeast Texas. The Opening Ceremonies will be at Discovery Green in downtown Houston on Saturday, May 15th from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Please visit their website at
http://naturechallenge.tamu.edu/ for more information and rules. Registered teams will have until August 14 to visit as many participating parks and nature areas in Southeast Texas as possible. Your team will benefit from viewing native plants and wildlife; dipping your feet in creeks, rivers, and the Gulf; drawing, photographing, or writing about your observations; and learning more about nature and science in your neighborhoods!
At each site you will complete activities designed for family fun and nature exploration. The family with the most completed Missions wins the GRAND PRIZE to be awarded at the closing ceremonies on Saturday, August 14th from 2:00 – 4:00p.m. at Sims Bayou Urban Nature Center.
