Community Trash-Off

For 15 years, residents of Orange County gather on the first Saturday in February to make the community a cleaner place. Volunteers have picked up more than 100,000 pounds of trash from streets, ditches, and along Adams Bayou since the inception of this program. Many families, businesses, schools, community organizations take this opportunity to do their part in keeping the bayou and the streets of Orange clean for the future.

The Annual Community Trash-Off will be held Saturday, February 6, 2010 from 8:00 am - 1:00 pm. If you or your family, friends, or business would be interested in signing up a team, please complete a participation form and email it to jcarlisle@shangrilagardens.org or fax it to (409) 670- 9341.

If you have a favorite station that you and your team would like, you are encouraged to sign up early. This year, the stations will be assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis.  We are also seeking volunteers who are willing to bring their small boats and help clean up Adams Bayou. Please consider this as an option when deciding where you and your team would like to volunteer on Trash-Off day.

Volunteers form teams consisting of 3-5 individuals with one team leader.  The headquarters is Orange Lions Park.  Team leaders can pick up supplies at Orange Lions Park for use at their designated cleanup site.  After the trash pick-up, all volunteers relax at Orange Lions Park with a free pizza lunch and collect prizes donated by local businesses.

If your business or organization is interested in making a donation for this event, please email or drop off your item at the Shangri La Admissions Window.  To email, please send to jcarlisle@shangrilagardens.org.

To register a team or be a team leader fill out the participation form and email it to Jayne Carlisle at jcarlisle@shangrilagardens.org.
