The Volunteer Voice, Volume 3, Issue 1,

March 31, 2010

Sometimes you can’t see the forest because of the trees. On a busy day at Shangri La, only a well-trained eye will allow you to see all that is being done. For example, most folks will never see the dedicated greenhouse volunteers, only the results of their labors—beautiful blooms in Shangri La. Also, on many days, Shangri La is sponsoring outreach programs that you may never know about. Did you know that a few Shangri La staff members and a great number of Shangri La Volunteers taught 8,500 students at the Jason Project at Lamar University during a six-day period in January? During the Community Trash-Off, more than 20 Shangri La Volunteers helped organize the event and kept things operating at peak efficiency during the event. More than 100 prizes were solicited by volunteers so that we could reward our participants.
